The 12th KANSAS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is coming this October 5-11th and will be held at the Glenwood Arts located at 95th & Metcalf.

Opening night film will be MANHATTAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL and here are some of the titles coming to KIFF.

MANHATTAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
An extraordinary global event will take place the week of September 28 to October 7 2012 when over 100,000 people in over 250 cities across six continents gather in Cinemas, Galleries, Universities, Museums and Cafes for one purpose...to view and vote on our Finalists' Films in the Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival

DAVE
An unlikely mentor uses basketball to shepherd an intellectually disabled teen and in turn becomes led himself into reconciliation with his estranged father. 'Coach D' Adam Donyes and Big Dave 'Diesel' Sterling, were an unlikely pair that were strangely brought together and significantly affected each others lives in ways that were seemingly impossible - serving as 'bridges' for each other in reconciling with their respective fathers who had abandoned each of them long ago. 93 min., USA

Schlafende Hunde (SLEEPING DOGS)
Jim is haunted by visions of his own violent death and is convinced he doesn't have long to live. He sets out on a journey to find his son Tom and reconcile with him. 86min, GERMAN

DEAD MAN’s BURDEN
Set against the golden landscapes of the New Mexican desert, "Dead Man's Burden" takes place in 1870, the immediate aftermath of the Civil War, at a barren outpost where old family wounds come to the fore. 93 min. USA

RISE AND DREAM
In a volatile region of the Philippines, a concert to celebrate peace is born. Follow the story of 13 teenagers who accept a challenge to learn their own cultural instruments to perform on the biggest stage of their lives. Rise and Dream takes the viewer through the rigor of their rehearsals, and into the homes and hearts of this most unlikely student band. 98 min. USA

SMUGGLED
The simple story of 9 year-old Miguel Rodriguez's journey into the U.S. He and his mother are smuggled into a bus with the hopes of entering the US for the first time. Unfortunately, the journey doesn't go as planned as a new destiny awaits Miguel and his mother. 80 min., USA

ZAD KADAR (VOICE OVER)
It is the end of the 70ties of the XX century. The Iron Curtain separates a Director of Photography and his wife - she goes to West Berlin with their sick son and he stays in Bulgaria. She believes that there the kid will be well. He can not do without working his favorite job. Yet, he lives a life torn between conformism and responsibility to his family. 107 min., BULGARIA

THE FOURTH WORLD
One out of every six human beings lives in a very hidden world--the world of slums. Filmed on five continents, 'The Fourth World' takes viewers deep inside this hidden world, a world the United Nations says could triple in the next 30 years. 54 min. USA

PEACE OUT
Peace Out asks and answers the question: are we ripping up our back yard for energy - or not? The film seeks to engage those of us who do not connect our daily decisions with global land use issues. It focuses on the North Western Canadian wilderness, however the issues are universal. The film pits energy executives, Tar Sands reps, nuclear spokesmen against academics and activists in an intelligent debate that leaves the viewer to decide what to believe. The film presents a beautiful, thought provoking look at a rapidly transforming landscape. 80 min., CANADA

HIGHER POWER
Higher Power is a documentary film that exposes the dangerous state of America's aging electrical power grid and the ingenious strategy utility companies have devised to protect themselves from legal and financial culpability. The film explores the devastating consequences of that strategy for one Michigan dairy farming family. 90 min., USA
